Prom Scholarships & History of the Glitzy Dance
Scholarship opportunities that'll make you feel like dancing!
When we say there are scholarships for everything, we mean everything. Including prom scholarships! So, not only will you get to have a great time, but you can get financial aid to help you pay for and attend college sans student loans. Just like prom-dress styles, prom has had its phases of popularity. But before we get to that, let's start with the beginning—the creation of Prom. An all-male college, Amherst College is historically noted as the first occurrence of prom as we know it. According to Mental Floss, “The first proms were held at college and were simple, home-grown events meant to teach good manners.” In 1894 females from Smith College were invited to dine and dance at Amherst with fellow college students. A Little Things blog mentions, prom became a high school event in the 1930s and the dance-themed events were commonly held in the school gyms across the United States. But a few rough decades due to WWII and the Vietnam War, American proms seemed to fizzle out. However, the 1980s— and possibly hit movies, like Pretty in Pink and Footloose fueled the prom-party revival.
Prom is one of those life events you'll remember forever, but just imagine how fond your memories would be if you remembered it helped you pay for your college education?!
From dancing, makeup, hairstyles and flowers, check out these fun prom-themed scholarships and apply today:
