Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering

Bioengineering majors combine engineering with medicine to solve issues with the human body. The programs are intense and require a serious adoration of mathematics. A major focus of the bioengineering major is biology and related fields such as biochemistry, cell biology and anatomy.

In addition to bioscience courses there’s also a heavy focus on engineering and even physics. Most bioengineering students can testify it’s a challenging major, but also a very rewarding one. Salaries in bioengineering can be lucrative with experience.

Some of the classes a student might take to earn a bioengineering or biomedical engineering degree include: computer science, physiology, electrical engineering, organic chemistry and cellular biology. This field offers both undergraduate as well as graduate degrees. While a PhD is not required to be a biomedical engineer, it’s suggested for high-level positions in biotechnology and the medical device industry.
