National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 to October 15 . It's a time to recognize contributions from Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States as well as honor their culture, positive influence on America, and heritage. In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we've put together a list of scholarships that celebrate Hispanic and Latino roots which, in turn, award Hispanic and Latino students with opportunities to create even more contributions and accomplishments.

Association of Cuban-American Engineers Scholarship

The Association of Cuban-American Engineers Scholarship is available to Cuban-American and other Hispanic students who are pursuing a degree in engineering. You must have completed at least 30 units of college work at an ABET - accredited college or university in the United States and have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award. Deadline: 9/9/22

ILLCF Scholarship

The ILLCF Scholarship is available to full - time students of Latino ancestry. You must be a resident of Illinois to be eligible for this award. Deadline: 9/16/22

Puerto Rican Bar Association Scholarship

The Puerto Rican Bar Association Scholarship is open to Puerto Rican and Latino students. You must be permanently residing in New York State, attending law school in New York State, or with a commitment to work in New York State upon completion of their law school education to be considered for this award. The La Unidad Latina Foundation Scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate Latino students. You must have a minimum 2.8 GPA to be eligible for this award. Deadline: 10/15/22

Sphinx Competition

The Sphinx Competition is open to Black and Latinx classical string players under the age of 30. To be considered, you must submit a video audition in one of the following categories: violin, viola, cello, or double bass. Deadline: 10/20/22

Black and Latino Men Read Essay Contest

The Black and Latino Men Read Essay Contest is available to high school and college students. To be eligible, you must submit a two - page essay about a book that impacted you in any way. Deadline: 10/31/22

Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest

The Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest is open to middle and high school students. In 500 words or less, choose a person or group of Hispanic heritage who have kept their community connected to one another, to their culture, or to those outside their community, and explain how. You must attend a school in the Optimum service footprint to be eligible for this award. Essays must be in English. Deadline: 10/31/22

Haz La U Scholarship

The Haz La U Scholarship is available to high school seniors of Hispanic heritage who enroll at an accredited higher education institution. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a U.S. permanent resident, U.S. citizen, or qualify under the DACA to be eligible for this award. Selected recipient will agree to attend a virtual regional awards ceremony. Deadline: 11/13/22

Hispanic Heritage Youth Award

The Hispanic Heritage Youth Award is available to rising high school seniors of Hispanic heritage, including Spanish, Brazilian, and Filipino. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award. Deadline: 11/13/22

McDonald's HACER National Scholarship Program

The McDonald's HACER National Scholarship Program is available to high school seniors. You must have at least one parent of Hispanic heritage and have a minimum GPA of 2.8 to be eligible for this award. Selection is based on academic achievement, community involvement, and financial need. Deadline: 2/6/23

HSF General College Scholarship

The HSF General College Scholarship is available to high school seniors, undergraduate, and graduate students who are of Hispanic heritage. You must be a US citizen, legal permanent resident or DACA and plan to enroll full - time in a degree seeking program at a two - or four - year U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, or Guam institution to be eligible for this award. Deadline: 2/15/23

LAEF Scholarship

The LAEF Scholarship is available to students who are of Hispanic / Latino heritage and / or actively involved in the Hispanic / Latino community. You must be a resident of Colorado and have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award. Deadline: 3/1/23

The HPGM Scholarship Program is open to undergraduate and graduate students of Hispanic heritage. You must be enrolled in a Wisconsin college or university and have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award. Deadline: 3/17/23

Guadalupe A. Reyes Fiesta del Sol Scholarship

The Guadalupe A. Reyes Fiesta del Sol Scholarship is available to students of Latino / Hispanic descent. You must reside on the southwest side of Chicago and have a minimum 2.5 GPA to be eligible for this award. Students who volunteer in a Fiesta del Sol committee, or are sponsored by member institution of Gamaliel of Metro Chicago may also apply. Deadline: 4/14/23

HSC Scholars Program

The HSC Scholars Program is available to high school seniors and undergraduate and graduate students of Hispanic / Latino heritage. You must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and be a resident of Texas to be eligible for this award. Deadline: 4/30/23

El Café del Futuro Scholarship

The El Café del Futuro Scholarship is available to full - time Latino students who are enrolled at HACU - member institutions. To be considered, you must submit an 800 - word essay that describes how your Latino heritage, family, and the community in which you grew up have impacted your desire and motivation to obtain a college degree. Additionally, describe what you intend to accomplish with your degree and how you will give back to your community. Deadline: 5/1/23

Ralph R. Hernandez Bilingual Education Scholarship

The Ralph R. Hernandez Bilingual Education Scholarship is available to students of Hispanic ethnicity who are residing Western New York. You must be pursuing a career in teaching and have a minimum 2.75 GPA to be eligible for this award. Preference is given to students enrolled in a bilingual education program. Deadline: 8/1/23
