Pre-Nursing Studies
A pre-nursing line of study prepares the student for the transfer into a Bachelor of Science program at a 3rd-year (junior) level. It covers a lot of the skills needed to be successful in the full nursing program. Courses can include: communications, sociology, probability and statistics, biology and English.
There’s a focus on psychology and humanities at this level, as nurses often face challenging situations dealing with patients and their families. A strong understanding of the varying situations at hand is imperative with today’s nurses.
According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the demand for nurses is expected to increase 7% through 2029 and the average annual salary for a registered nurse (May 2020) is $75,330. As a cost-saving option, many community colleges offer the pre-nursing training as a way to offset the cost of the same path at a traditional learning institution.
