While definitely the most popular, unusual scholarships are oftentimes the most exclusive. Their eligibility requirements are strict, but that doesn’t mean you won’t find an unusual scholarship for which you qualify. This list of scholarships is organized according to some of the more common subcategories of unusual scholarships, such as physical characteristics, creativity, the final frontier, animal appreciation, and more. Scholarships for Physical Characteristics

Tall Clubs International Scholarship Tall Clubs International (TCI) offers a $1,000 scholarship for tall people, and individual chapters may also offer local awards. Women who are at least 5’10” and men who are at least 6’2” as well as under 21 years old with plans to attend college in the fall are eligible to apply. Little People of America Scholarship The Little People of America Scholarship is available to undergraduate students. You must have a medically diagnosed form of dwarfism, or be the immediate family member of someone with dwarfism to be eligible for this award.

Creative Scholarships

Beans for Brains Scholarship The Beans for Brains Scholarship is open to students that know how to knit, crochet, and/or weave. You must submit a photo of your self-made knitted, crocheted or woven project and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in order to be considered for this award. Duck Brand Duct Tape Stuck at Prom Contest This contest is open to students age 14 years or older who are attending a high school prom in the spring and are U.S. citizens. Entrants must enter as a couple (two individuals) and attend a high school prom wearing complete attire or accessories made from duct tape and include a color photograph of their duct tape attire in their entry. The winning couple will be selected based on a variety of criteria, including originality, workmanship, quantity of Duck Tape used, use of colors, and creative use of accessories.
Writers of the Future Contest The Writers and Illustrators of the Future Contest is open to new and amateur writers and artists from all nations. An entry consists of a work of prose or three black and white mediums illustrating a science fiction or fantasy story with no recurring theme. Illustrators of the Future Contest The Illustrators of the Future Contest is open to new science fiction and fantasy artists. To be considered, you must submit three illustrations in a color or black - and - white medium created from your imagination. Each illustration must represent a subject different from the other two.

Animal Lover Scholarships

Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest The Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest is open to any high school senior in the United States who can call ducks. Contestants have 90 seconds to use four calls (hail, feed, comeback and mating). National 4-H Beekeeping Essay Competition The National 4-H Beekeeping Essay Competition is open to active 4-H Club members. To be considered, you must submit a 750 - to 1000 - word essay on the following topic: "Transportation: Minimizing Stress on Bees While Getting Them Where They Need to Be."

Food-Related Scholarships

Vegetarian Resource Group Association The Vegetarian Resource Group (VRG) offers scholarships each year to graduating U.S. high school seniors who have promoted vegetarianism in their schools and communities. The application requires an essay about how the applicant promoted vegetarianism in their high school or community.

Scholarships for Hobbies

Minecraft Scholarship The $2,000 Minecraft Scholarship is open to high school and college students. You must be a U.S. citizen, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and submit an essay of at least 500 words that details your opinion on how Minecraft can be a positive influence on education and career development in order to be considered for this award. Crossword Hobbyist Scholarship The Crossword Hobbyist Scholarship is available to current and incoming undergraduate students. To be considered, you must create and submit a 15 X 15 newspaper - style crossword puzzle based on the theme of "My Hobby / Interest." All crosswords must be original, written solely by the applicant, and not previously published elsewhere. The puzzle publishing fee will be waived for scholarship applicants. Clowns of America Scholarship The COAI Scholarship is available to students enrolled in family entertainment educational programs that run for a minimum of ten hours. You must be a COAI member in good standing for at least one year in order to be considered for this award. The deadline for applications is 60 days prior to the event for which the scholarship is requested. At Fastweb, we update our scholarship database on a daily basis.
