Women's History Month is a relatively new month-long observance in the United States. In fact, it's only about 40-years old as a nationally recognized month. According to a National Women's History Alliance article, National Women's History Month begin in 1980 with a proclamation from then president, Jimmy Carter.

Award Amount: Up to $2,000 The Michigan Sugar Queen Scholarship is available to female students between the ages of 18 and 23. You must be continuing your studies at an accredited college in the state of Michigan, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and be a resident of a county where sugarbeets are grown to be eligible for this award. Recipients of this award must be willing to commit to serving as the Sugar Queen or Court attendant for one full year. You must also be unmarried and have no minor dependents, and must remain unmarried for the entire reign.

You must be of good character and conduct, have never been convicted of a crime, be single, and not be pregnant or have children to be eligible for this award. Also, you are not permitted to smoke, vape, or consume alcohol at any time during the competition. The top recipient will become the spokesperson for the National Cherry Festival and the Cherry Industry.
